Atomize is an AI-powered educational application that transforms PDF documents into interactive mind maps and generates study materials including flashcards, quizzes, and infographics.
By using Know Map, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Information You Provide
When you create an account or use our services, we collect:
Account Information:
- Email address – Required for all authentication methods
- First and last name – Required for email/password signup
- Age – Required (minimum 13 years) for COPPA compliance
- Display name – Automatically generated or provided via Google/Apple Sign-In
- Password – For email/password authentication (securely hashed and never stored in plain text)
User-Generated Content:
- PDF documents – Files you upload for mind map generation
- Extracted text content – Text extracted from your PDFs
- AI-generated mind maps – Mind maps created from your documents in markdown format
- Study materials – Flashcards, quiz questions and answers, and infographics you generate or create
- Annotations and notes – Your personal notes, tags, and customizations on mind map nodes
- Mind map customizations – Colors, styles, layouts, icons, and other visual preferences
2.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Firebase User ID (UID) – A unique identifier assigned to your account
- Authentication tokens – Secure tokens for maintaining your session
- Subscription status – Information about your Know Map Pro subscription
- Timestamps – Creation and modification dates for your content
- App version – The version of Know Map you’re using
- Platform – Whether you’re using iOS or Android
Important: What We DON’T Collect

3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 Core Service Functionality
AI Processing:
- Your PDF documents are sent to Firebase Cloud Functions for AI-powered analysis and mind map generation
- Text extraction occurs on your device using the Syncfusion PDF library
- AI generates structured mind maps from your PDF content
- AI creates study materials (flashcards, quizzes, infographics) based on your mind map nodes
- All AI processing happens on Google Cloud infrastructure via Firebase
Data Synchronization:
- Your mind maps sync across all your devices via Cloud Firestore
- Study materials are synchronized in real-time
- User preferences and settings are synced
- Subscription status is synchronized across platforms
Account Management:
- Email verification and password authentication
- OAuth authentication via Google and Apple
- Account recovery and security
- Subscription management and billing
3.2 Service Improvement
We may use aggregated, anonymized data to:
- Improve AI mind map generation accuracy
- Optimize app performance
- Debug technical issues
Note: We do NOT use analytics or tracking tools to monitor your app usage.
4. How We Share Your Information
4.1 Third-Party Service Providers
Google Firebase (Cloud Infrastructure Provider)
- Services Used: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage
- Data Shared: All user data including account information, PDF documents, extracted text, mind maps, and study materials
- Purpose: Backend infrastructure, AI processing, data storage, and synchronization

- Data Location: Stored on Google Cloud servers
RevenueCat (Subscription Management)
- Data Shared: Firebase UID (anonymized user identifier) and subscription purchase status only
- Purpose: Managing in-app purchases and subscription entitlements

- Important: We do NOT share your name, email, or other personal information with RevenueCat
Google Sign-In (OAuth Authentication Provider)
- Data Shared: Authentication tokens only
- Data Received: Email address and name (with your permission)
- Purpose: Simplified account creation and login
Apple Sign-In (OAuth Authentication Provider)
- Data Shared: Authentication tokens only
- Data Received: Email address and name (optional, with your permission)
- Purpose: Simplified account creation and login
- Note: Supports Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature
Syncfusion (Client-Side PDF Library)
- Purpose: PDF text extraction (processed entirely on your device)
- Data Shared: None – this library runs locally and does not transmit data
4.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities, including to:
- Comply with legal obligations, court orders, or subpoenas
- Protect and defend our rights or property
- Prevent fraud or investigate potential security issues
- Protect the personal safety of users or the public
- Enforce our Terms of Service
4.3 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your personal data may be transferred. We will provide notice before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data Storage and Security
5.1 Where We Store Your Data
- All data is stored on Google Cloud Platform via Firebase services
- PDF content and mind maps are stored in Cloud Firestore (NoSQL database)
- Infographic images are stored in Firebase Storage
- Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
- Data is encrypted at rest on Google’s infrastructure
5.2 Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- End-to-end encryption for data transmission
- Secure OAuth 2.0 authentication protocols
- Firebase Authentication security rules
- Firestore security rules that restrict data access to authenticated users only
- Regular security updates and monitoring
- Password hashing using industry-standard algorithms
Note: While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5.3 Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Content data: PDF content and mind maps are retained until you delete them or your account
- Deleted data: Permanently removed from our systems within 30 days of deletion
- Backup data: Retained for a maximum of 30 days in backups, then permanently deleted
6. Your Privacy Rights
6.1 Access and Portability
- View all your mind maps and study materials within the app at any time
- Export your mind maps as markdown files
- Request a complete export of your data in machine-readable format by contacting us
6.2 Correction and Deletion
- Edit or delete individual mind maps, notes, and study materials at any time through the app
- Modify your account information in the app settings
- Delete individual PDFs and their associated generated content
6.3 Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time through the app:
- Open Know Map and go to Settings
- Navigate to Account
- Select Delete Account
- Confirm your decision
When you delete your account:
- All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days
- Your subscription is cancelled (no refunds for unused subscription periods)
- All mind maps, PDFs, and study materials are permanently deleted
- This action cannot be undone
6.4 Region-Specific Rights
For European Union Users (GDPR):
- Right to access: Request copies of your personal data
- Right to rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Right to object: Object to processing of your personal data
- Right to restrict processing: Request limitation of processing
- Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time
- Right to lodge a complaint: File a complaint with your local supervisory authority
For California Residents (CCPA):
- Right to know: Request disclosure of what personal information we collect, use, and share
- Right to delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to opt-out: Opt-out of the sale of personal information (Note: We do NOT sell your data)

7. Children’s Privacy
Know Map requires users to be at least 13 years old. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- Age verification is conducted during signup (self-reported)
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13
- If we learn that we have collected data from a user under 13, we will delete that information immediately
- Parents or guardians can contact us to request deletion of their child’s data

8. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries outside of your country of residence, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ.
- We use Google Cloud infrastructure, which may process data in various locations worldwide
- Google Cloud complies with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework
- We implement Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for data transfers from the EU/EEA
- Appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with applicable laws
9. Cookies and Tracking
Know Map Does NOT Use Cookies or Tracking Technologies:

- ❌ No third-party analytics (Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, etc.)
- ❌ No advertising tracking or retargeting
- ❌ No cross-site or cross-app tracking
- ❌ No behavioral profiling
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons.
When we make material changes, we will notify you by:
- Displaying an in-app notification
- Sending an email to your registered email address
- Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
Your continued use of Know Map after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
